Zheng Yanxiong, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, said that Hong Kong has embarked on the road from order to prosperity with the support of the motherland and the concerted efforts of all sectors in the city.
At a seminar held today (August 2), Zheng quoted President Xi Jinping as saying that the Central Authorities would adhere to the "one country, two systems" principle in the long run, emphasizing the need to maintain HK's unique status and advantages.
Hong Kong is a super-connector and is world class when it comes to attracting wealth and seizing opportunities provided by global changes, Zheng said, adding that unity is the key to everyone's fortunes.
"There's no need to ask about a hero's origins. It doesn't matter if a company is from Hong Kong, the Mainland or overseas. It doesn't matter if you're a business leader or a grassroots person," he said.
"If everyone doesn't argue and scrap internally and moves forward together by finding common ground, then we can forge a new consensus and provide the vigorous strength for building a better HK," the director pointed out.
Zheng added that over the past year, inspired by the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speech on July 1 last year, various parties have been actively taking action and joining hands to add momentum to HK's recovery, with a series of policies rolled out by the Central government as well as different municipalities in the Mainland to benefit the construction of the Greater Bay Area.
He also mentioned that the new SAR government has acted decisively to introduce counter-cyclical measures to help economic recovery, actively promoted HK in the Mainland and overseas, welcomed enterprises and talents from all over the world, etc.
He said that during the year, HK has moved further away from the political turmoil, emerged from the shadow of the epidemic, returned to the right track, accelerated economic recovery, sustained improvement in employment, and stabilized the market.
"With the concerted efforts of all, Hong Kong has embarked on the road from order to prosperity," he said.
