Bronny James, the eldest son of NBA star LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest during basketball practice at the University of Southern California (USC) and was hospitalized Monday (July 24), according to a statement from a family spokesperson.
He is out of the intensive care unit and in stable condition, the statement said.
"Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU," the statement said.
"We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.
"LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes."
Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that it responded to a medical emergency involving "an adult male" at 9:26 a.m. on July 24 and sent paramedics to the Galen Center.
USC Athletics declined to comment on the situation, citing student privacy concerns.
Bronny, 18, has been getting a lot of attention since he started his basketball career. In May 2023, he chose to attend USC and became the first member of the James family to attend university. The 6-foot-3 combo guard was rated a four-star recruit and shined in the McDonald's All-American Game in March featuring some of the country's top high school basketball players.
