The Russian military's drone and missile attack on Ukraine's Odessa on Thursday (July 20) shook the Chinese Consulate-General there, causing damage to the outer wall surface and some windowpanes, sources said.

In a response issued on Thursday night, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China (MFA) confirmed the news, saying that the blast wave shook off parts of the wall surface and windowpanes of the Consulate-General.

The MFA mentioned that the staff of the Consulate had already "long left" the premises and therefore no casualties were caused.

China will follow closely the developments, stays in communication with relevant parties and takes all necessary measures to safeguard the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Ukraine, the spokesperson said.
