After the Hong Kong Police Force and the Immigration Department lower their entry requirement, the Fire Services Department (FSD) has also adjusted the physical fitness test to boost recruitment. Moreover, they plan to lower eyesight standards for entry, which means wearing glasses is allowed. The FSD announced today (July 20) that firefighters have glasses in their breathing apparatus, so "it doesn't matter if they have glasses or not".
The FSD has held experiential recruitment activities in colleges around Greater Bay Area to attract HK students to participate. The FSD said that they would review the effectiveness of the relevant activities and consider organizing more recruitment activities of this kind.
When it comes to how many students are expected to be recruited, the FSD said they will not set a target for this, and will recruit as many students as were suitable and selected.
The FSD has earlier decided to re-schedule the physical fitness test to the final stage of the recruitment process, which can provide more preparation time for candidates. In addition, the FSD plans to organize four fitness test experience days for potential candidates to assist them in preparing for the test, and to set an on-site test on the same day, which candidates will be deemed to have passed the test if they meet the standard.
