Connie Talk EP4 | Maisy Ho: Epidemic 'promotes' transformation of industries in HK, Macao and connection of GBA cities
In this new episode of Connie Talk, Executive Director of Shun Tak Holdings Limited, Maisy Ho, provided an inside look into the future of Hong Kong and Macao within the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Speaking with Connie, Ho emphasized the strategic role of how collaboration among GBA cities could foster an integrated and dynamic regional economy. Drawing on Shenzhen and Guangzhou's strengths in technology transfer and trade logistics, she proposed the potential for Hong Kong's premier universities and financial platforms to cooperate with them, thus enhancing business opportunities and fostering a fluid exchange of talent and capital.
Despite the significant economic challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ho offered an optimistic outlook on Hong Kong and Macao’s business recovery and progress. From tourism to retail, industries hit hard by the pandemic are starting to rebound, buoyed by a surge in domestic tourism and the acceleration of e-commerce and remote work. Her business ventures, she revealed, pivoted successfully to online retailing, even amidst the crisis.
A significant part of Ho's vision for the future is the attraction and nurturing of high-quality talents, both local and foreign. She endorsed streamlining visa and immigration processes, providing competitive benefits, and promoting the educational opportunities that Hong Kong offers. In particular, she acknowledged the government's active efforts, citing the formation of the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES) and the launch of the "Top Talent Pass Scheme".
Ho recalls several initiatives she spearheaded while complementing this focus on talent acquisition. These range from civic education awards and youth summer camps to student ambassador programs promoting Tai Chi and martial arts. These ventures aim to equip students with practical skills and cultivate their moral character and global perspectives.
Ho's dynamic leadership and vision provide a strong blueprint for the future of the GBA, one where collaboration, resilience, and youth development are key to the region's growth and success.
