Nanjing County, an ancestral home for Taiwan compatriots people and overseas Chinese, is located in the subtropical mountainous region of Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province.
The traditional rural homes here in western Nanjing County known as Fujian Tulou frequently leave visitors in awe. It has a number of enormous multi-story houses constructed by the Hakka people between the 15th and 20th centuries that are included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
In Mandarin, the term "Hakka" (literally "guest families") refers to the Han people who formerly resided in the Hakka-speaking regions of southern China, such as Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, and so forth.
Each structure can house about 800 people and is constructed with an inward gaze, either in a square or circular shape. They were first built as an anti-invasion barrier, with a single entrance and walls that might exceed 60 feet in height.
The interior of the tulou was lavishly decorated and created for comfort, in contrast to their simple exteriors, showing an exceptional example of Chinese human settlement.
Tourists commonly stop by Yunshuiyao old town, also referred to as the Knot Town. Its literal translation is "Song of the Clouds and Waters," and it captures the tranquil atmosphere of traditional Chinese villages.
The same-named Chinese movie was filmed here more than ten years ago, which increased the old town's notoriety. The majority of the structures, home interior design, and shooting locations have all been kept in good condition.
You can reach the center of an enigmatic and revered past by strolling down the cobbled road beneath those old trees.
