The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced that the preliminary visitor arrivals for May were 2.83 million, with a daily average of about 90,000 visitors, equivalent to about 56% of the pre-pandemic figure (2017-2019 average).
The share of leisure visitors continues to grow, accounting for half of the total arrivals. Cumulatively, more than 10 million arrivals were recorded from January to May this year, which is about 40% of the pre-pandemic average.
The HKTB expects that the pace of Hong Kong's tourism recovery will continue to be affected by various factors, including airline capacity, the global economy, and regional tourism competition, particularly currency exchange rates.
