Located in Hongya County, Meishan City in southwest China's Sichuan Province, Liujiang Ancient Town offers a quiet getaway and an opportunity to experience 800 years of Chinese history.
Liujiang was constructed during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279), when a few wealthy families predominated. There were four prominent clans: Yang, He, Zhang, and Zeng. The house that has withstood the test of time the best today is Zeng's Mansion.
In addition to its historic Chinese-style homes, the old town is renowned for its lovely surroundings. A stunning environment is created by the flowing Huaxi River, the lush Yuping Mountains, and the streams that traverse the town. With its simplicity and sincerity, it transports you away from all the commotion surrounding commerce and industrialization.
There are many lovely locations where you may unwind and take in the rural ambiance. A boat trip on the river, a cup of tea at the neighborhood tea shop while mingling with visitors or residents, or just a stroll through the historic district's winding cobblestone streets while learning about its history are all options.
Tourists are always impressed by the enormous statue of the sleeping Guanyin Bodhisattva in Liujiang's old town, as well as by the revered temples and the towering, thousand-year-old trees.
The ancient town transforms into a hopping night market as dusk strikes. It's highly advised to try Bingfen, a clear jello mixture with molasses, ice, and various toppings. The taste is smooth, sweet, and reviving, making it ideal for summer.
