Renowned Japanese artist Takeru Amano is celebrated for his iconic "Cute" artwork that features distinctive Ukiyo-e and comic styles
Japanese artist Takeru Amano has captured the hearts of art enthusiasts around the world with his unique and captivating works. Having been exhibited in Tokyo, Hong Kong, New York, London, Paris, and Taipei, Amano's art has gained immense popularity and admiration. Amano began his art journey in New York, where he worked at a printshop before returning to Tokyo in 2000. Since then, he has put forth a diverse range of artworks, including landscape paintings, still-life compositions, spray paint works, and sculptures. Amano's art is seamlessly blends classical religious painting, Western art history, pop art, along with Japan's distinctive Ukiyo-e and comic style.
The Japanese anime-like "Cute" element in his works is the reason why he is so popular overseas. He said that "cute" is not a selling point of his works, but just a beautiful coincidence. It is all because of the Western popular art, Japanese anime culture and traditional Ukiyo-e painting that he obtained the creative inspiration to simplify the three-dimensional perspective, and then transformed his works into two-dimensional space on the canvas.
There is a long table at the center of the exhibition, presenting some inspirational works by Takeru and the objects seen in real life. For example, lemons are Takeru's perspective of the world and people's life, which is sour and astringent.
