The A.S. Watson Group HK Student Sports Awards ceremony was held this morning (May 21). Speaking at the ceremony, Hong Kong Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung said the government had been actively promoting sports development in recent years, spending about HK$7.4 billion this year, of which 80 percent will be used to promote community sports. He said the government would subsidize schools and organizations interested in the promotion program to organize training courses and activities.
Kevin Yeung pointed out that the government injected HK$250 million into the Hong Kong Athletes Fund (HKAF) in 2020 to increase scholarships and support athletes' dual-track development, including support for post-baccalaureate programs and short-term certificate courses. The Administration has also launched the "Retired Athletes Transformation Programme," which has already provided funding support to over 130 retired athletes.
According to the information, the Student-Athletes Award is an "annual award" to recognize outstanding students. This year, 962 students were awarded, the highest number ever.
