232 couples register for marriage on May 20 in HK, down 40% compared to last year

"520," a homophone for "I love you" in Mandarin, has always been a popular choice for couples to tie the knot.

According to Hong Kong's Immigration Department, 232 marriages were registered today (May 20). Among the couples, 68 plan to register at the marriage registry, 152 couples will have their marriages officiated by registered marriage celebrants, and 12 couples have chosen to register at designated places of worship.

Compared to the same period last year when 402 couples registered for marriage, the number of marriages registered this year dropped by 170, or about 40%.

Around the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui today, DotDotNews reporter saw a number of couples posing for wedding photos after registering for marriage, and the atmosphere was lively and full of romance.
