The CLP Pulse located at 147 Argyle Street will be open to the public tomorrow (May 19th) and free of charge. Built in 1940, the CLP clock tower building is a landmark of Kowloon City. It was used as the headquarters of CLP for more than 70 years until 2012 when the headquarters moved to Hung Hom. In 2018, it was named a Grade 1 historic building. CLP preserved the historical, cultural, architectural, and social value materials, turning the iconic building into a cultural hub and showcasing the inseparable relationship between Hong Kong's electricity development and socio-economic improvement.
Chef corporate development officer Ms Quince Chong Wai-yan stated that the establishment of the CLP Pulse aims to inherit and promote Hong Kong's precious historical and cultural heritage, promoting green education, thereby achieving the mission of sustainable development in the future. CLP Pulse uses multimedia exhibitions and offers a wide range of programs and experiential activities for the public of all ages to treasure and enjoy, sustaining its decades-long bond with the Hong Kong community.
The CLP clock tower is a fine example of international modernism design and is cladded in reddish-brown glaze tapestry tiles. The three exhibitions: Electricity, Our Home Our History, d Traces of Human Touch were distributed on the ground and the first floor. The themed exhibitions are equipped with interactive facilities and multimedia exhibitions to introduce how power supply can promote the modernization of life and build Hong Kong into a future "smart city". Visitors can have the chance to appreciate the carefully selected artifacts and video clips to bring back memories from the past of Hong Kong.
The exhibition also tells Kadoorie Family stories, explaining how they powered industrialization. Cooperating with Intangible Cultural Heritage Office, CLP Pulse presented different local intangible cultural heritage items.
CLP Pulse is open to the public every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday to Sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm.
