The 2025 National Games of the People's Republic of China will be jointly organized by Guangdong, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR.
The Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province has agreed to hold eight sports events and four to five mass events in Hong Kong, pending approval by the General Administration of Sport, according to a document that the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the HKSAR government submitted to the Legislative Council.
It is expected that the new Kai Tak Sports Park will be the home venue for most sporting events that will take place in HK.
According to the document, it plans to set up a coordinating office for the National Games in October, adding three directorate posts with an average annual staff expenditure of about HK$11.84 million. The office will be supported by 40 time-limited non-directorate and non-civil service staff.
In addition, more than 3200 athletes and staff are expected to participate in sporting and public events in Hong Kong during the Games.
