In A Young Chat on the Rule of Law and Social Development in Indonesia and Nepal since the BRI, law students from Nepal and Indonesia talked about their impression of Hong Kong, the culture of their motherland, and the changes in their countries since the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The Chat was organized by Basic Law Foundation, HK Basic Law Foundation, China Resources, and two LegCo Members, Hoey Simon Lee and Ambrose Lam.

As the developing countries in Asia, Nepal and Indonesia are trying to seize all the development opportunities. To describe the relationship between China and Nepal, Nepalese student Sushma said, "The first one to dance in your wedding and the first one to mourn your death is your neighbor."

"From landlocked to land-linked, BRI would create a shift for Nepal," she added.

BRI - A road to future

When it comes to the BRI, the "common future" becomes the point. "BRI means a peaceful and mutually beneficial way to cooperate, and that's the key. For small countries like ours, it means a great opportunity," said Pushpa, a Nepalese student.

Adesh, a student from Nepal, mentioned that the BRI provides an opportunity for economic growth, and with the soaring economy, the legal system and social system will be improved too.

After a series of discussions, China provided loans and investments for much of Indonesia's infrastructure. The islands, originally divided by seawater, will 'meet each other'.

"With the help of the BRI, many islands in Indonesia will be linked together and the transportation will be greatly improved," Adityas, an Indonesian student, said hopefully.

Through different presentations and Q&As, the students benefited a lot from the chat. "With our foreign friends sitting beside us, we are able to understand the world from different perspectives......the ocean (Indonesia) and the mountains (Nepal)," they said.

Big city, small wishes

Describing HK as an unfamiliar city, the students said, "The infrastructure, the buildings in HK - everything is so great."

"The public transportation is so advanced, and our country doesn't have such an advanced system," said Rakshya, a Nepalese student.

"The food was also very good, but it becomes really hard for me, a vegetarian. But I still survive," Pushpa's answer elicited a round of laughter.

At the same time, the students from both countries agreed that HK has done an excellent job of combining urban development with nature conservation, which is an example of the future development of their home countries.

Serve motherland with unreserved loyalty

The students from both countries have been preparing for the law competition to be held in the coming future for six months. With the help of the Foundation's funds, these students, who are not wealthy themselves, are able to participate in a high-level competition. After going through a difficult preparation process, they finally got the opportunity to perform on behalf of their countries on the world stage.

In order to introduce their countries, the students prepared two promotional videos, which showed the snowy mountains of Nepal and the hot jungles of Indonesia. Seeing the fascinating scenery of their motherlands, the young people, who were originally a bit nervous, suddenly showed a gentle smile.
