Germany's transportation network will come to a halt on Monday (March 27) due to a strike by two of the country's biggest unions.
Airport, port, railway, bus, and subway workers marched out soon after midnight for a 24-hour strike.
Unions are demanding higher wages to help their members cope with the country's rising expense of living.
Other public service industries have walked out in smaller numbers, but Monday's will be the country's largest in decades.
The two unions participating in the strike are among Germany's largest.
Verdi represents approximately 2.5 million workers in the public sector, including public transportation and airports.
EVG represents approximately 230,000 workers at Deutsche Bahn and other bus companies in Germany.
They expect it will put more pressure on employers ahead of another round of pay talks on Monday.
