The opening ceremony of the first session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) was held in the Great Hall of the People this morning (March. 5).
At the meeting, Premier Li Keqiang delivered a report on the work of the government.
John Lee Ka-chiu attended the meeting as the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which is the first time he attended the opening ceremony of the NPC, and he expressed his encouragement when he met with reporters before the meeting.
Lee sat in the second row of the first section on the left side of the podium and took notes carefully while listening to the Premier's report, highlighting the points on the document.
After the opening ceremony, the venue erupted in applause, and then President Xi Jinping nodded hello to the delegates on the podium as he rose to leave the meeting.
As he passed by the first section where John Lee was, Xi stopped and looked at him, and reached out to greet him with his hand. Lee gave a fist salute to Xi, who waved his hand in greeting again for about 5 seconds.
