As a traditional agrarian society, the ancient Chinese relied on agriculture as a means of livelihood, and as such there are many of the twenty-four solar terms that reflect precipitation, Yushui (Rain Water) being one of them. Yushui as the second solar term means the start of rain, when temperature rises, snow and ice melt, and rainfall increases. As the saying goes, "Rain during the spring is as precious as oil", suitable precipitation is important for the growth of crops. This is why Yushui has been one of the most important of the twenty-four solar terms since ancient times.
Mark from the UK is very interested in the development of agriculture. He came to Sheai Museum in Shuangyang to learn about the ancient farming methods. Apart from listening to the narrator's explanation on how to irrigate and plough the land, he looked at folklore relics and listened to historical farming stories, as if he had stepped into the past and felt the evolution and development of farming culture.
Not only does China have a long history of farming, but modern, mechanised farming methods are also widely available to ordinary families. Mark went to the modern greenhouse in the Guoxin Agricultural Zone. Although it was not yet spring outside, the greenhouses were already lush with vegetables. Looking at the greenery and the professional equipment, Mark could not help but feel that the progress of agriculture is dependent on the development of technology.
