The launch ceremony of "HK MedTech Hub", the Centre for AI and Robotics, HKISI-KCL Joint Laboratory, is being held at Inno2, Hong Kong Science Park today (Feb. 17). The Greater Bay Area International Medical Technology Forum will be held at the same venue in the afternoon. CAIR and KCL will present their original medical technology achievements and share the joint laboratory's R&D plans for clinical translation.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has set up the CAS Hong Kong Institute of Innovation in Hong Kong (HKISI). The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) of HKISI, was established in 2019 and is located at Science Park, Hong Kong. It is positioned as a world-class international R&D institute for AI and robotics, a highland for attracting international high-end talents for innovation, and a hub for technological innovation cooperation and exchange.
King's College London (KCL) is one of the founding colleges of the University of London and one of the top schools in the world. In the 2022 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (Shanghai Ranking), KCL is ranked fourth in the world and first in the UK in the field of medical technology. The School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Science, as the main faculty of KCL's medical technology research, is committed to the advancement of research and innovation in medical technology as well as clinical teaching.
The "Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint" recommends that the government focus on promoting the development of the life and health technology industry. CAIR and KCL have a long-standing and in-depth partnership, CAIR, HKISI and KCL have agreed on the establishment of a joint medical technology laboratory, namely the HKISI-CAS-CAIR & KCL (HK) MedTech Hub, focusing on minimally invasive flexible surgical robotics, advanced medical imaging, and artificial technology-based surgical scene awareness. The research and clinical experts will jointly develop technologies with the goal of achieving clinical translation. The joint laboratory will uphold the research philosophy of solving major clinical problems, benefiting patients and empowering doctors, and will join hands with clinical experts and industrial partners to contribute to the development of innovative medical technology in Hong Kong.
