No classified documents were found during an FBI search of President Joe Biden's home in Rehoboth, Delaware, according to his lawyer.

In a statement, Biden's attorney said Wednesday's search was "planned" with the president's "full support".

The three-and-a-half-hour search of the property related to a wider probe into the handling of classified documents.

Biden's lawyer Bob Bauer said the search was carried out "without advance public notice" in the interests of "operational security and integrity".

Following the search, Bauer said that "no documents with classified markings were found".

Some "materials and handwritten notes" that appear to date to Biden's time as vice president between 2009 and 2017 were taken for "further review", Bauer added.

The search is the latest in a series that began in November when classified documents were discovered at the Penn Biden Center, an office space in Washington, DC. This information was not made public at the time.

More documents were discovered in December and January searches at another of Biden's homes in Wilmington, Delaware.

The exact number of classified records recovered is unknown, but at least a dozen were discovered during the January searches alone.

Biden stated that his team did "what they should have done" by immediately alerting officials and that they are "cooperating fully and completely" with the investigation.

According to CNN, Biden bought the villa after he left office as former vice president and that he and his wife sometimes spent weekends there, most recently from Jan. 20 to 23.
