A total of 451,000 people entered Macao during the seven-day Chinese New Year holiday from the 30th to the 6th of January, a year-on-year increase of nearly three times, according to the Macao Government Tourist Office (MGTO).
Of these, about 165,000 were Hong Kong visitors and 265,000 were Mainland visitors. The number of arrivals on the third day of the Chinese Lunar New Year (Jan. 24) exceeded 90,000, the highest single day since the outbreak.
In addition, the average occupancy rate of hotel establishments, including hotels, serviced apartments and budget hotels, was 85.7%, up 22.4% year-on-year. The highest occupancy rate was recorded on the third day of the Chinese Lunar New Year, at 92.1%.
Room rates rose by nearly 50% year-on-year to approximately MOP1,575.
The MGTO said that the good patronage during the holiday is a direct reflection of visitors' desire to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year in Macao, sending a positive message to the tourism and related industries.
