Famous composer Doming Lam passes away at age of 96
Doming Lam, the composer named "the father of Hong Kong modern music" for his contribution, died yesterday (Jan 11) at the age of 96.
Lam's daughter posted on social media platforms, saying, "The time has come, but the music of Doming Lam will not stop because of this. I believe that we will remember the past moments of fellowship in his works, and we will think of him when we sing his 'Pater Noster' at the weekly Mass."
Born in Macau in 1926, Lam is originally from Nanhai, Guangdong. He came to Hong Kong in 1945 and participated in the formation of an orchestra as a violinist. Later, he went to Canada and US to study.
After graduating from the University of Southern California, he worked as a television producer and director in the cultural and various programs of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as well as producing a number of classical music programs for RTHK Radio 4 and the Television Department.
Lam has been commissioned and invited to write new works on numerous occasions, and his music has been heard in over 50 cities worldwide.
