Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh on Thursday (Dec. 29) issued a decree to rebuild the country's ancient capital of Kharkhorin, also known as Kharkhorum.
According to the order, the action intends to foster conditions that will allow residents to live in a safe and healthy environment, improve access to fundamental social services, lessen urbanization, guarantee balanced regional growth, and revive the priceless historical and cultural heritage.
More than 300 kilometers west of Ulan Bator, the nation's present capital, is Kharkhorin, which is situated in the Uvurkhangai region of the country's central province.
Over half of the 3.4 million people who call Ulan Bator home reside there, and the city has been plagued by problems with housing, air pollution, and traffic.
