Chief Executive John Lee announced at the airport yesterday (Dec. 24) that reopening of boundary between Hong Kong and mainland China can be achieved, and the Central Government agreed to resume cross-boundary travel between the two places in a gradual and orderly manner.
Executive Council Member Lam Ching-choi today (Dec. 25) explained that the two places will not start with full reopening, and it is believed that the quota will be gradually increased, with land crossings as the first.
He stressed that the cross-boundary travel of the two places should be balanced with the medical affordability of HK, suggesting the use of the private market to take over the future medical needs to avoid too much impact on the entire health care system.
