The US Senate passed a bill to bar federal employees from using Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok on government-owned devices. The bill, proposed by Republican Senator Josh Hawley, still needs to be approved by the US House of Representatives and then submitted to President Joe Biden for approval. The House needs to pass the bill before the end of the current congressional session, which is expected next week.
A representative of TikTok said the ban was unfounded and would not be helpful to US national security. He also suggested that Washington, D.C. Government should negotiate with TikTok and come up with a practical solution.
