The government is examining the bus companies' applications for fare increases. A KMB department head revealed today (Dec. 11) that KMB and LWB have applied for a fare increase of less than 10%, and said that the fare increase could not catch up with the changes and had a lag, hoping that the government would grant a reasonable rate of increase as soon as possible.
Due to factors such as rising fuel prices and falling passenger traffic, KMB lost nearly HK$140 million after tax in the first half of the year, and its staff received a 3.5% pay rise at the same time.
The head also said that under the continuous expansion of the railroad network, the passenger volume of KMB/LWB decreased by 15%.
He described KMB's operation as facing a difficult situation, and KMB last applied for a fare increase in 2018, while LWB has not increased its fares for 11 years.
