The opening of the Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel and the Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Link today provides an additional route for Tseung Kwan O residents to travel out of Kowloon.
The 1.8-kilometer-long bridge connects the east and west sides of Tseung Kwan O. It is the first viaduct in Hong Kong to have a carriageway, footpath and cycle track at the same time. The speed limit is 80km, with a 50km speed limit during high winds.
The bridge has a bifurcated road leading to the center of Tseung Kwan O. If people continue straight ahead, they'll reach the Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel, which opened on the same day.
The Transport Department estimates that it will take about 15 minutes to travel from downtown Tseung Kwan O to the Kowloon Bay Business Area using the new route.
Five bus routes will run through the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, which will be in operation on Monday.
