Watch This | John Lee: DoJ to seek an adjournment of Lai Chee-ying's national security trial today
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier after returning from a trip to Thailand, returned to office on Sunday. Lee at a press conference before the Executive Council meeting today (Nov. 29) mentioned the issue of asking the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to interpret the National Security Law regarding the Lai Chee-ying case.
Lee said that Tim Owen, King's Counsel of the United Kingdom, was granted by the High Court for representing Lai Chee-ying who was charged with conspiracy to commit collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security and other offences, and he had submitted a report to the Central People's Government last night.
He also said that the Department of Justice will seek an adjournment of Lai's national security trial, noting that the Central Government attaches great importance to the case.
