The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) announced that it will introduce compulsory "Cross-faculty Core Subjects" from the 2023/24 academic year onwards, of which the "Greater Bay Area Study Tour" will count as one credit and be implemented in all full-time undergraduate programmes in phases.
According to EdUHK Vice President (Academic) and Provost Professor John Lee Chi-kin, the University will deepen understanding of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) through exchanges and visits according to different course contents and requirements, and the number of study days will vary. The study tour is expected to be free of charge.
It is reported that a pilot will be launched for education majors to undertake block practice in GBA schools in the next semester, in collaboration with a number of schools that specialize in accepting HK children to help prospective teachers gain experience in teaching in the Greater Bay Area and provide internship opportunities in the Greater Bay Area for students majoring in education. Schools are expected to provide 12 to 18 internship opportunities in subjects such as Chinese, English and Mathematics.
Asked how to deal with students who refuse to return to mainland China and who do not have documents, Associate Vice President (Academic Affairs) Professor May Cheng May-hung said that the University will specify in the program description that a study tour to the Mainland is required and that students are aware of this.
