Opinion | Nancy Pelosi, Asia doesn't welcome you

Most ladies in their 80's mellow into their dotage. Not crotchety Nancy Pelosi. At 82, she is behaving like a sexually frustrated octogenarian raging against the dying of the day.
Her latest theatrics is a proposed visit to Taiwan. Originally planned for April, the trip was foiled by a positive Covid test. This time, China has promised that it will take "forceful measures", if Pelosi presses ahead, against the better advice of the US military and Biden himself.
Why, we wonder, would Pelosi attempt such a high-risk move that might see her aircraft being "accompanied" by Chinese fighter jets over Taiwan airspace? Her purported reason: to support Taiwan against Beijing belligerence. Her real motive: to light the fuse in a Pacific powder keg.
The truth lies in the fabric of American domestic politics. Her calculations are transparent. Whenever things go downhill, leaders go overseas for distraction, the riskier the better. The November mid-term elections are threatening a wipeout by Republicans, and poor Pelosi might have to give up her gavel in Congress.
The visit will derail US-China relations. This is Nancy in a nutshell: a rusty battle-axe that is no less deadly.
God no longer lives in America, and certainly not in the US Congress.
The US is in disarray: The Capitol riots, voter suppression, fraudulent electors, fake news, real lies, an epidemic of gun violence, racial hatred, massive floods and apocalyptic wild fires, and, the cherry on the cake, the curse of the other Joe---no, not Joe Biden, but Joe Manchin. This is the democrat senator, who, single-handedly, managed to scuttle Biden's legislative agenda on the climate crisis.
Democratic politics will age you. One selfish politician living in the pocket of big dirty fossil fuel business is holding up his party and his entire country for ransom. And Pelosi as leader of Congress and Biden as president are powerless to stop this nonsense.
Yet, in the midst of the mess, Pelosi finds time to orchestrate a high-wire circus act. It isn't enough that Europe is at war. Asia must be engulfed in flames too. She will watch gleefully as Asia goes go up in a ball of fire—more exciting than playing with her great-grandchildren in her eighth decade of existence. Who knows, if she gets lucky, she might even bag a Nobel Peace Prize in the process.
A frothing China-hater, she wears her democratic colors spitefully. As a Hong Konger, I have watched in anger as she worked her magic, egging on gullible folks into self-destructive violent protests, just like Trump inciting riots at the Capitol.
As China's arch enemy, she knows so woefully little about her adversary. If she is healthy enough to fly, she is surely not senile enough to learn. Nancy, take a break from your blind rage, and look in the mirror before posturing yourself as the repository of political virtues.
I have better travel plans for you, Nancy. Instead of going to Taiwan, why not try visiting the mainland? There, you will be greeted by a friendly people, at peace, in prosperity, purpose-driven and surprisingly tech-savvy. Its streets are safe at midnight, and humming with harmony, without a hint of racial hatred or bitter divisions. And the biggest surprise awaiting you: The Chinese are *madly in love with their "authoritarian" government. How is that for cognitive dissonance?
You are a prisoner of your own prejudice and, like your peers, allergic to the truth. What gives you the right to swagger around dictating your warped values when your own country is a moral mess?
In your power to polarize, you are second only to loose cannon Trump. Please do the world a favor—take Joe Biden with you to a Gucci nursing home for your permanent superannuated bliss. The last time the Chinese had to live with a wicked old lady was when the Empress Dowager Cixi squatted on the throne long past her sell-by date. And you are treating your chair in Congress like a throne.
Asia has no room for a quarrelsome grandmother who is overdue for a life watching the sunset.
Nancy openly worries about her plane being shot down over Taiwan and refuses to divulge her travel plans. Should she chicken out and make herself the world's laughing stock or risk wetting her pants? The way I see it, she has two options: Either pray that lightning strikes twice, and that Covid favors her with a second visit, or she can get to Taiwan by riding, witch-like, on her broomstick. That way, the Chinese fighter jets will leave her alone as witches are said to be immortal and indestructible. On second thought, much safer to fabricate a second positive Covid test. After all, what is fake always works like a charm in a true America.
