At the World Fencing Championships in Cairo, Egypt, Edgar Cheung Ka-long won a bronze medal for the Hong Kong team in the quarterfinals of the foil competition.

Before facing Tommaso Marini, the third-ranked Italian fencer in the world, in the quarterfinals, Cheung Ka-long first defeated fencers from Croatia, Ukraine, the United States, and the Czech Republic.

At the beginning of the competition, Edgar Cheung was unable to gain an advantage, and once fell behind to a score of 2:8, and then once caught up to a score of 10:12. When the score was 12:14, Marini took the decisive point, and finally Cheung lost with a score of 12:15, and did not advance to the final.

Cheung Ka-long won the bronze medal for the first time in the tournament without the match for the third, which is the first-ever medal for the Hong Kong men's fencing team at the World Championships and the second medal for the Hong Kong team at this year's tournament after Man Wai Vivian Kong.
