Tornado disrupts streets in Guangzhou(CNR)

Netizens posted a video on Thursday evening (June 16) of a tornado at the boundary of Conghua and Baiyun districts in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.

The tornado was reported by the media in the city's Conghua district, where "3-protection" commanding information system have contacted the power supply, metro, meteorological, emergency and local government authorities to rush to the scene to deal with the situation.

Some netizens took photos of the tornado, which caused fires to erupt in its path, while trees and scaffolding were blown to the ground and the streets were a mess. There were reports of the tornado damaging electrical equipment and affecting the Guangzhou Metro.

An official of Guangzhou Conghua Meteorological Bureau said that a yellow thunderstorm warning had been issued at around 3pm for the affected towns, and that thunderstorm clouds had intensified.

The Guangzhou Metro released a message on Weibo late Thursday night saying that at around 7:30 pm that evening, a foreign object was suspected to have drifted onto the tracks between Xinhe and Taiping stations on Metro Line 14 due to strong winds. Due to the large size of the foreign object, a power outage was required.

As some sections of the service were affected, the Metro issued delay messages through station and train announcements and official Weibo account, and deployed additional staff to guide passengers. Normal service was gradually resumed until 8:56 pm when the object was disposed of.
