Hong Kong police will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the handover with a series of activities, including opening the 100-year-old Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station to the public for the first time.
The Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station has been standing for 100 years and much of it has not been used for office space since 2016. The classic Edwardian architecture, arched wooden doors, English fireplaces and wooden handrails have been included in the list of Grade II historic buildings.
Most of the activities will be open to the public and held in August and September.
Kenneth Kwok, assistant police commissioner, said, "The important activities will be held after July 1, and we hope to host some events to interact with citizens without affecting the efficiency of police operation.."
Kwok said that public participation was particularly important in maintaining law and order. He hoped that through various activities, police could make the public better understand their work and gain their trust and support.
The police said they are working closely to prepare for the 25th anniversary of the handover, hoping to strike a balance between not affecting the public's celebration and ensuring safety.
