Hong Kong police said on Saturday (June 4) that a couple in their 30s have been arrested on suspicion of murdering their 14-month-old daughter.
In a press briefing, assistant commander for Yuen Long district Gary Lam Hing-cheung said that police received a report on Friday evening from a 67-year-old man who had failed to contact his 32-year-old daughter.
Police officers sped to a village house in Shui Tau Tsuen in Pat Heung, Yuen Long district, where they found the 32-year-old woman and her 33-year-old husband in a room.
The baby girl was found lying unconsciously on the floor in another room, Lam said. She sustained neck injuries and was certified dead at the scene.
Lam added that police believed the girl had been dead for one to three days, and the cause of her death was still to be ascertained.
Initial investigations showed the man had a history of mental health treatment. Police will look into the couple's relationship with their daughter and possible motives for the murder, Lam added.
