The Kowloon Motor Bus and Long Win Bus unions held their first meeting on pay increase with the management today (May 26) and requested a 7% pay rise for all employees.

The Pay Trend Survey Committee yesterday (May 25) confirmed the results of the 2022 Pay Trend Survey, which showed that the total pay trend indicators for employees in participating companies in the past year reached 3.20% to 8.30%, while civil servants are also expected to receive a pay rise of 2.04% to 7.26% this year.

Motor Transport Workers General Union KMB Branch Director Lai Siu-chung pointed out that the relevant staff's salary has been frozen for two years, and now the government is expected to take the lead in raising wages, with the possible highest increase rate of 7.26%.

Lai also said that in the past six months, the staff got an average of 3,000 to 10,000 yuan less income, and the income level has not returned to normal yet. Lai hoped that the management heard the goodwill of the union and facilitate this year's salary increase as soon as possible.

Lai said that the management claimed that the company's difficult operation, coupled with the opening of the new MTR lines, has led to the average daily loss of tens of thousands of passengers. However, the union still believes that the company, which has recorded a surplus in the past two years, should share the results with employees, not just shareholders.
