The government has encouraged uninfected individuals aged 18 to 59 who are at higher risk of COVID-19 exposure or with personal needs to choose to receive a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine. DotDotNews has collected some frequently asked questions about the fourth COVID jab. See if they help.
Q1: Why 4th jab?
A: Since the level of antibodies decreases over time, a booster jab helps to replenish the level of COVID antibodies in the body and maintain protection. A fourth jab is recommended for specific groups of individuals to provide extra protection and reduce the rate of severe illness and mortality associated with the virus.
Q2: Can I mix and match vaccines for 4th jab?
A: According to government guidelines, after receiving the first three doses of COVID vaccine in HK, you can choose either the same vaccine or another vaccine. If you receive a vaccine outside of HK other than the Sinovac or BioNTech vaccine, you should consult the health care provider at your vaccination site.
Q3: Who are eligible?
A: Uninfected people aged 18 to 59 who are at a higher risk of COVID-19 exposure or with personal needs may choose to receive a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. People aged 18 to 59 who choose to receive a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine should do so at least six months from their third dose.
Q4: How to book a jab?
A: From today until May 25, citizens who are eligible for a fourth jab may get a same-day ticket for vaccination at community vaccination centres or hospital COVID-19 vaccination stations (except those located at private hospitals and the satellite community vaccination centre at Leighton Centre). Starting from 8 am on May 26, members of the public can make online reservations for vaccination.
