Speaking at a press conference today (May 17), Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam said that the government restructuring plan will be submitted to the Legislative Council for scrutiny.

According to the latest news, the plan has already been passed by the Executive Council today and will soon be submitted to the city's legislature. Approval procedures are expected to be complete by mid-June, allowing John Lee, HK's CE-elect, enough time to appoint critical officials and operate the new government structure on July 1.

Lam said that the proposal is based on a blueprint she unveiled in January that suggested expanding the number of government policy bureaus from 13 to 15.

She added that the proposal has also incorporated suggestions from Lee.

Lam also explained her role in bringing about a new government structure. "My job is to facilitate the approval for a new government structure. I am not involved in identifying the candidates to fill the various positions in the political team."

"I have every confidence that (Chief Executive-elect) John Lee should be able to find all the right people to fill the various positions," she said.
