The election of the sixth-term Chief Executive of HKSAR was successfully held on May 8 in a fair and orderly manner in accordance with the law, and John Lee Ka-chiu was elected with 1416 votes. Between May 8 and 11, Bauhinia Magazine interviewed 1,072 people by random telephone surveys to gauge their views on the election.
According to the poll, 83.2% of the respondents were concerned about the CE election, while 12.1% were not concerned and 4.7% had no opinion.
Results also showed that 81.6% of the respondents were satisfied with the first Chief Executive election held under the new electoral system, 11.7% were dissatisfied, while 6.7% were not sure or had no opinion.
The smooth conduct of the election is another vivid example of democracy with HK characteristics, a full manifestation of the advanced superiority of the new electoral system, and an important symbol of the principle of "patriots governing HK" taking root in full.
When announcing his candidacy, Lee pointed out clearly that the next five years would be a critical moment for Hong Kong's prosperity, and that his administration would adhere to three major directions, including solving different problems with a result-oriented approach, enhancing HK's competitiveness and laying a solid foundation for HK's development.
The poll also showed that 75.3% of the respondents agreed with the three major policy directions proposed by Lee, while 19.4% disagreed, and 5.3% had no idea or opinion. Meanwhile, 69.4% of respondents were confident that the housing problem would be solved more effectively in the next five years, while the remaining said they were not confident or had no opinion.
