
Hong Kong's Chief Executive candidate John Lee Ka-chiu is holding a campaign rally themed "We and Us, A New Chapter Together" starting from 4 p.m. on Friday (May 6) in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Addressing the event, Lee called on the voters to cast their ballots on Sunday (May 8), when the election takes place.
"We can't wait, we can't be late. We need to seize the opportunities to forge Hong Kong as an international metropolis," he said. "In the coming five years, Hong Kong will become a caring, accommodating place full of energy and hope. Let's do this one thing together."
Lee reiterated his four policy targets, saying that he aims to improve governance, increase speed, efficiency, and quantity in terms of housing supply, enhance increase HK's competitiveness and sustainability, and build a caring society.
"In the last 25 years, 'one country, two systems' has been successfully implemented … But there are lots of deep-seated problems that need to be solved."
Lee says if he is elected, he will create a stable environment for Hong Kong to take big steps forward and further unite society.
The rally ends at around 4.55 p.m., less than an hour since it began. Before Lee's speech, some of Lee's supporters delivered speeches at the event, including Former HK leader Leung Chun-ying, chief executive of the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital Lo Chung-mau, Olympic table tennis bronze medallist Doo Hoi-kem, former police chief Tang King-shing, Ethnic minority leader Lachmandas Nandkumar and HK's deputy to the National People's Congress David Wong Yau-kar.
