The MTR East Rail Line cross-harbour extension will start services on May 15 and the new Exhibition Centre Station, containing displays that feature the rail line's historic photos and a bomb casing, will open on the same day.

The Exhibition Centre Station adopts the MTR stations' classic mosaic style and its main colour tone of turquoise green mixed with grey symbolises the seawater of Victoria Harbour.

Running across the station platform, the historic photo display records the journey of the century-old East Rail Line since its beginning in 1910 to its extension to Hong Kong Island.

Passengers will discover another amazing item that is showcased on the platform. That is where a bomb casing, from a 1,000-pound bomb, is on display. It was one of three devices found during the construction of the station in 2018.

The bomb was removed by the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau. It is believed that the bomb was dropped on the city during World War II.

Along the concourse, the artwork Water Memory by local artist Leung Chi-wo is being exhibited.

As the Exhibition Centre Station is the closest to the harbour among all MTR stations, the artist was inspired to take more than 8,000 pictures of the harbour at different times.

Some 1,200 photos are on the wall, as if to submerge the station in variations of waves through different hues and colours.
