On Tuesday (March 29) morning, a team of seven Chinese medicine experts from the Mainland arrived in Hong Kong, and was greeted by Chief Executive Carris Lam and Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan at the Shenzhen Bay Port.
Tong Xiaolin, leading expert of the team this time, is the head of the treatment group of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who was also at the forefront of the anti-epidemic work in Wuhan in January 2020.
Speaking at a media session, Tong said that the team's visit to Hong Kong includes field trips to the makeshift hospitals, elderly care homes and community treatment facilities in the city, after which he will discuss with the SAR government and Chinese and Western medicine colleagues in HK to come up with a Chinese medicine consultation and treatment plan that meets the reality of HK.
Tong said that there are many elderly patients in HK with serious illnesses and a high mortality rate, and that Chinese medicine can play a special role in the overall rehabilitation of the patients, especially those who have some underlying medical conditions or chronic diseases.
