Speaking at a press conference today (Mar. 24), Hospital Authority Chief Executive Tony Ko said that Accident & Emergency (A&E) waiting time has improved significantly, compared with the previous peak of the epidemic when more than 1,000 to 2,000 people were waiting for admission to the A&E departments of public hospitals.
Ko pointed out that at present, the total number of patients with a waiting time of more than 12 hours in the A&E departments of HA hospitals is less than 100. For example, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital earlier, there were 300 to 400 patients waiting to be admitted to the A&E department at the peak, but this morning there were only a few patients waiting to be admitted, which is a significant improvement. In addition, more non-COVID patients are seeking treatment at A&E departments, which will be closely monitored.
