Secretary for Security, Chris Tang (DDN)

A spokesman for the Security Bureau (SB) on Feb. 23 said that the wife of the Secretary for Security, Chris Tang, and their domestic helper tested positive for COVID-19. In the early morning on Wednesday, Tang tested negative after a COVID-19 rapid antigen test, and his subsequent deep throat saliva specimen submitted for test also showed negative results.

Tang's wife underwent a COVID-19 rapid antigen test around noon on Feb. 23 and tested preliminarily positive. Tang, his wife, and their family members subsequently submitted deep throat saliva specimens for tests. The results of Tang's wife and their domestic helper were positive. In accordance with the guidelines of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH), they are now at home pending admission to hospitals or isolation facilities.

Tang and other family members were identified as close contacts after the assessment conducted by the CHP of the DH. Tang and other family members will undergo home quarantine for 14 days and medical surveillance in accordance with the "StayHomeSafe" Scheme, including to conduct tests on specified days within the period. Tang will work from home during the quarantine period.

The SB will conduct thorough cleaning and disinfection at the relevant officers, and arrange for relevant staff members to undergo testing.

The SB will continue to implement disease prevention measures vigorously and has reminded all staff members to pay attention to personal hygiene and stay vigilant at all times. They should seek medical advice if they feel unwell.
