The Hong Kong government will set up a satellite community vaccination center (SCVC) in Leighton Centre in Causeway Bay to provide the public with the BioNTech vaccination service from Feb. 11.
Members of the public can make reservations through the online booking system on the designated website of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme (www.covidvaccine.gov.hk) starting from 9 am next Tuesday (February 8).
Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip, said, "In order to further increase the vaccination capacity within a short period of time, we are adopting various means to set up more vaccination venues in different districts. After the provision of outreach vaccination service at shopping malls, this is another new effort by the government to establish a COVID-19 vaccination center in a non-governmental venue in the Causeway Bay business district with a high flow of people and convenient transportation."
The SCVC in Leighton Centre will operate daily from 8 am to 8 pm and will be closed between 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm for cleaning. No same-day tickets will be available at this vaccination center. All eligible persons can receive their first, second or third dose of BioNTech vaccination at the SCVC.
Located at the seventh floor of Leighton Centre at 77 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, the SCVC is retrofitted from a car park with a dedicated lift for direct access from the ground floor of the building, where relevant signage will be placed. The SCVC will be operated by the medical group of the Community Vaccination Centre at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Sports Centre.
To facilitate the public's understanding of COVID-19 vaccines, the Government will set up a COVID-19 Vaccination Resource Centre at Shop No. G10, UG/F, Leighton Centre, starting February 11 to provide the public with information relating to COVID-19 vaccines, including vaccination venues and the latest situation of COVID-19 vaccination in HK.
Under the threat posed by mutant virus strains with high transmissibility, eligible persons, both young and old, should get vaccinated as early as possible for self-protection and to reduce the risk of falling seriously ill and death should one get infected. Those who are eligible for the third-dose booster should get vaccinated on time to enhance protection.
The number of CVCs will be increased to 15 after the SCVC in Leighton Centre comes into service.
