As the epidemic situation worsens, Hong Kong government on Sunday (Jan. 23) moved in to make a "restriction-testing declaration" effective from 7 p.m., under which people within the specified "restricted area" in Tai Wo Hau (i.e. Fu Keung House, Tai Wo Hau Estate) were required to stay in their premises and undergo compulsory testing. According to the health officials, no positive cases were found after an overnight lockdown of Fu Keung House in Tai Wo Hau Estate.
During the compulsory testing which concluded at 9 a.m. this morning (Jan. 24), the government inspected the test reports of about 335 people and found that 24 of them had not undergone compulsory testing and a compulsory testing order was issued to them. Three of them were also fined a fixed penalty of HK$5,000.
The government reminds the about 40 households who have not answered the door to contact the government for arrangement of testing as soon as possible after reading the notices put up by the government, in the hope of eliminating the possible risk of further spread of the virus in the community.
The government will seriously follow up on the compliance of the compulsory testing notice and the restriction and declaration of testing. Any person who fails to comply with the compulsory testing notice commits an offense and is liable to a fixed penalty of HK$5,000. A compulsory testing order will also be issued requiring the person to be tested within a specified period.
Failure to comply with a compulsory testing order or a restriction and testing notice is an offense punishable by a fine at level 4 (HK$25,000) and imprisonment for 6 months.
