Hong Kong started its first Legislative Council election under the revamped electoral system on Sunday (Dec. 19) morning, as over 620 polling stations opened at 8:30 a.m. for electors to cast their votes.
At the Yuen Long Merchants Association Primary School polling station in New Territories North West, citizens began to arrive at 8:10 a.m. before the polling station opened to await in the queue. The senior citizens also praised the special-care arrangements for them to facilitate everyone's voting rights.
Many people expressed their hope that this election would make Hong Kong a better place. A citizen surnamed Chan said in the interview, "For the good of Hong Kong, we must vote. If they need help at the polling stations, I would like to help out. I hope to elect a good legislator who can do good things for Hong Kong."
