Introduction

Terry Hewton of Adelaide, Australia was reading his letter to the Post this morning, which runs full text as follows: LETTERS (Saturday, November 6, 2021)

Tensions over Taiwan need to ease for talks (title of his letter, published by the SCMP today)

It is good to read that "Chinese observers" recognize the need for Beijing and Washington to better control tensions between them over Taiwan in advance of talks between President Xi Jinping and United States President Joe Biden.

At present, the signals from both sides in their respective approaches to the sensitive Taiwan issue are mixed. This greatly adds to the tensions.

China says it wants a peaceful reunification of the mainland and Taiwan on a "one country, two systems" basis while at the same time continuing to harass Taipei with frequent, intrusive military flights into Taiwan airspace.

For its part, the US continues to claim it wants a good relationship with China while offering vague promises of American assistance for Taiwan against a China threat and persisting in maintaining a military presence in the South China Sea.

It all makes for a very brittle situation. It needs to be ratcheted down a notch or two, at least so Xi and Biden have a better, less fractious context for their face-to-face talks in the near future.

Terry Hewton,

Adelaide, Australia.

As soon as Terry has finished reading his letter to the editor, he flips the paper over to the front page, the following eye-catching news headline flashes into his mind:

China and Taiwan Peacefully Reunited Last Night

By Angel Li

Dot.dot.news.@WenhuiTaikung.com

As the clock strikes at 12 mid-night, when the world sleeps, China and Taiwan are reunited—without firing a single shot. A reunited China was born a mere few hours after President Xi and President Joe Biden were talking in the White House over a Thanksgiving dinner, celebrating a return to their formerly genuine relationship, which was twisted because of a Trump threat together with his paramilitary supporters' gun-toting violent storm of the US Capitol on January 6, leading to a Federal investigation of the former US president's alleged crime of treason…

There was a bloodless military coup yesterday (November 6)  before midnight in Taipei when an elite team burst into the Taiwan Presidential Palace where Tsai Eng-wen was reportedly having a top-level meeting with the Taiwanese Premier Su Tseng-chang, Legislative Yuan president Yu Shyi-kun and Former Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, all three who had just been denounced by Beijing, for  "vigorously inciting cross-strait confrontation and malicious attacks against mainland", an inflammatory accusation, reported the Post ("Beijing threatens 'diehard' separatists." South China Morning Post, November 6, 2021.)

It was exclusively tipped and now immediately reported that the coup was masterminded by a Taiwan elite military group which was inspired by and swore allegiance to the popular Ma Yingjie, a former two-term president and his KMT, which is unhappy with the known separatist stance of Tsai Eng-wen whose unstoppable anti-China attitude and policy of collusion with foreign powers (trying to fish in troubled Taiwan waters) have been the opposition party's serious concern over Taiwan people's sense of security, worrying about the island becoming a flashpoint.

A Safe Island Paradise: No Arm Forces, Only London-Like Police

Overnight Taiwan's entire military complex has been peacefully demilitarized, reducing to the role of unarmed police—much like the London bobby--patrolling all the streets in Taiwan from Taipei to Tainan, putting the civilians of all political party affiliations at ease.

According to Dot.dot.news-agency, Taiwan's last hope, Mr. Ma Yingjie has been in close contact with Beijing, trying to bridge the information gap, and trying desperately to avoid an all-out military intervention. He has informed Beijing that Taiwan's weapons of mass destruction "have all been kept under lock and key." Much to Beijing’s relief.

It is also learned that Mr. Ma and his party is prepared to start "Cross-Strait Peace Negotiation" based on the formerly agreed upon “September-Second Consensus.”

As the Chinese president and his American counterpart enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinner and discussed the Taiwan issue, the island of Taiwan together with its people are also enjoying peace, which seems to come easy—with Chinese wisdom and Asian successful model of military coup.

In the coming month, it is expected that the once anxious Taiwanese—now at ease--will be celebrating Christmas with their counterparts on mainland China, and in North America, and the rest of the world singing, "Joy to the World…"

(Note: The Chinese humbly refrain from taking credit for the coup. The idea of a bloodless military coup is not a Chinese invention; in fact, it has been in our Asian countries’ DNA, notably Thailand, which--every now and then--exploits the concept of a military coup as situation sees fit for socio-political stability and economic prosperity.)

Conclusion

The letter from Australia by Terry Hewton (a good-natured global citizen who attests to the fact that peace in the Asia Pacific and the world) is a legitimate universal concern, desired by all unbiased people around the globe, including the Aukus pact nations of Australia, Britain and the United States--where the recent early election results have registered clear signs of voter anger over Joe Biden's administration's wavering foreign policy towards China, a peace-loving nation, whose unfulfilled dream it was to be reunited with its beautiful island of Taiwan, a renegade Chinese province.

Bearing in mind that this peaceful reunification of Beijing and Taipei is an implicit embodiment of regional upward social mobility, and an explicit mutual agreement--guaranteeing social, political stability and economic prosperity in China's backyard--the pan Asia Pacific region, fulfilling the common dream of the ASEAN member states and their neighbor, the Middle Kingdom.

("Democrats will be punished again in 2022 if Americans do not feel better about the direction of the country," reports the Times. ("Democrats sounds the alarm." New York Times, November 5, 2021.)

Now that the contentious Taiwan issue has been peacefully RESOLVED—without firing a single shot—peacefully creating the conditions necessary for all-important stable and peaceful Sino-US relations, which will lead to Washington's dream of grandiosity and fulfill President Xi Jinping's wish for a sense of everlasting world peace and prosperity, unlike the bloody way the Americans and its allies once did behave badly in Afghanistan and the war-torn Middle East.

Post-Reunification and Its Aftermath

Meanwhile, early the next morning when the world's two top leaders were meeting for breakfast, they both received a copy of the New York Times:

The paper's headline: “China and Taiwan Peacefully Reunited Last Night.

And the Sub-headline: "China, US vow to work for 'stability and peace'…"

The Times has been tipped that Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany vows to nominate JOE BIDEN AND XI JINPING, HIS CHINESE CHUM for the year's Nobel Peace Prize before she steps down from the world's stage…
