China on Saturday (Oct. 16) launched the manned spacecraft Shenzhou-13, which is expected to send three astronauts to its space station core module for a six-month mission.

Three Chinese astronauts, or taikonauts – Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu – headed onboard Shenzhou-13 spacecraft at 00:23 a.m. Beijing Time early Saturday (16:23 GMT on Oct. 15).

The Shenzhou-13 mission is the second of four manned missions for the construction of China's space station, Tiangong.

The trio will stay in space for six months, the longest ever in-orbit duration for taikonauts.
