The Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, delivered her fifth Policy Address on Oct. 6. The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Alfred Sit Wing-hang, said in a radio program today (Oct. 10) that he had discussed the Policy Address with relevant people in the industry and they were excited and encouraged by the measures to promote development of innovation and technology (I&T), which they believed would bring a new situation and a bright future.
Sit pointed out that Hong Kong's land supply shortage is a bottleneck hindering the I&T development, and to address this problem, this year's Policy Address proposed the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy, the construction of San Tin Technopole as well as a total of 540 hectares of Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation Zone for Technology and Innovation.
He stressed that the future development of the cooperation zone will definitely emphasize co-integration, examining how to facilitate the interchange of talents and equipment sharing, so that the two places can complement each other's advantages and provide enormous opportunities for the I&T development.
Sit is convinced that this is a golden era for Hong Kong's I&T development. He believed that with more support, the development platform of the Greater Bay Area and the national policy of supporting Hong Kong to build an international innovation hub, Hong Kong's I&T can bring new economic impetus to the future and provide quality employment opportunities for young people.
