A total of 10 projects have been approved in the new application round under the Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme with about $40 million granted, the Environmental Protection Department announced on Thursday (Sept. 2).
The scheme supports non-profit-making organizations to collaborate with villagers to organize diverse and innovative conservation and revitalization projects across a wide spectrum of areas ranging from natural environment or habitats, non-graded built heritage to cultural and historic assets.
The approved projects are expected to enhance ecological conservation and management work, revitalize local villages, increase public appreciation of village culture, promote eco-tourism and create more green job opportunities.
Including the previous three application rounds, the scheme has approved 27 projects totaling about $140 million.
It will continue to make the best use of public resources to promote sustainable conservation and revitalization of the remote countryside in a holistic approach and in synergy with the Lantau Conservation Fund.
Moreover, enhancement measures will be introduced to the scheme to increase its flexibility so as to encourage different organizations to carry out diverse countryside conservation and revitalization projects.
