The clock tower of Times Square shopping mall is a 20-year-old landmark of Causeway Bay, a busy shopping area in Hong Kong, making it the collective memory of the city's 8 million inhabitants.
However, this Russel Street landmark was demolished at the beginning of this year, and with speculation and anticipation from the public, a new tower has finally appeared on Friday (Aug. 20).
A blue tower now stands in front of the shopping mall, detaching from the mall's traditional bronze and brown facade. The five blue circle design, revolvable at different angles, seems to emphasize design aesthetics more than the tower's original timekeeping function.
This new feature of the shopping mall certainly catches the attention of the public, quickly becoming a photo-worthy location for social media uploads.
"Now the clock tower has been replaced, and it seems to become inconvenient to read the time." said a visitor.
